From the Sermons of John Wesley - Pastor Patrick Coakley

The Cure of Evil Speaking-Matthew 18 - Our bent is to get for ourselves and have things our way. It's by the grace of God that there is any unity in the church at all. The world should stop and say "Wow! Look how they love one another!" when they watch us. God's people are to listen and obey the command, "love one another". Wesley created standards so his church would be a powerful church. Hurtful gossip, backbiting--evil speaking of others must be prevented. There is a process to cure this destructive habit.

The Nature of Enthusiasm-Acts 21 If you live a life of joy, are willing to face anything, and you are open to loving your enemies: that's unacceptable. Paul faced the world rejecting this amazing hope. That's the same today. True Christianity practiced correctly will make the world think you are crazy. (John Wesley) Thinking you are a Christian because of your 'enthusiasm' is self-deceit. They pretend. What is missing? Change is the key. Let God change your self-centered ways, change who you are. Some want the enthusiasm, the words, the fun things, without the giving up of who you are to have God make you the Altogether Christian.

Easter Hurry- Matthew 28 Victory!!! Wear your 'Nikes' to church! Nike is the Greek word for victory. We receive victory when we RUN from our sin into the loving arms of Jesus Christ. Those that came to Jesus that morning was just to be near Him. We are the same. When we look for God, He is already there, waiting for us. Are you too busy hiding out? Will you miss out? God is waiting for you. Don't be afraid. Meeting Jesus can take your fear away. Jesus is here, just as He said. He did it for you.

Palm Sunday What's Our Focus on Worship?- Matthew 21 Was there worship genuine when he entered Jerusalem? Are we focused on ourselves instead of on the One we are worshiping? It's all about what He has done for us. What is our attitude when we come? God wants your heart. Spirit and truth are required in our worship. It is powerful. It's not what you do, it's Who you worship.

So Far So Good - What does God expect from us? Is just knowing about Him and His character all He expects? What does God see when He looks at me? Our response to salvation comes from the Holy Spirit. A response of gratitude. That brings glory to God. There are things He wants us to do for those who need us. Be there, be ready, give hope and encouragement, stay there. Are you a Savannah 911? (Lesson from a 5 year old)

***Inspiring!! "Get Up!!!" - John 5:1-15 -(Pastor Coakley) Do you REALLY want your life to change? Are you comfortable with the bad state you are in? Do you really want to get well? "Look at me", says Jesus. "You've been looking in the wrong place! It's not someone else's fault! Get up!" It takes obedience. TRUST! Are your eyes still on the pool or on Jesus?

"We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our joy complete."
